Event of the Day:
The weather forecast said winds <1ft and winds 5-10kn. They lied. Left Sea Hag in beautiful sun, cool, winds 5, at 07:50 and back into Gulf; as soon as left the river channel [5miles], the waves were 1-3 ft off our starboard beam, so we rocked for awhile, until made the turn 10 miles out [past the shallow waters 3-6ft], headed for Crystal River, waves off our stern; by 11:00, the waves had indeed died down, <1ft, so comfortable ride thereafter. Not as many crab pots as yesterday, but still several 'rows' and one had to keep 4 eyes on the water often. Also lots of 'frenzied, fish packs' at the surface making it look 'boiling' - presume 'feeding? Dolphins will surface beside the boat often. The water changed to the renown clearer turquoise; [see photo]
We cruised at 2200 rpm, 13.6 mph; diesels can run constantly at 80% of their rated full throttle. Arrived at 3pm for the anchorage at the Crystal River mouth, behind Shell Island, in 6-7 ft of water, between several crab pots [see photo], with several small boats and beach goers about 200yds away. Only a few boats would be able to anchor here, next to the channel/River. [The marina in Crystal River had no slips available]. There is some swinging about the anchor due to the wind, but this will dissipate this evening. We are not putting out a second anchor.! Our anchorage looks at the Florida Power Plant/Nuclear station. See photo. Lots of boaters heading in; supposed to be a "NO WAKE" area but obviously they are unable to read!! Crystal River, 10 miles upriiver in fresh water, is home to manatees due to the stable 72F temperature, clear water from the springs, etc; we hope to see some here.
Now having our 'happy hour' and looking forward to Tarpon Springs and the Greek food tomorrow at our reserved slip at Turtle Cove Marina - it's 65 miles and wx predicted to worsen so will leave before 0730. Also, the tide is 3 ft and low tide tomorrow is at 6:30 so we need to get there well before then.

Dd • 05 May, 2020: Fun! I read your blog every night before bed!!!❤️
Dick • 06 May, 2020: Congratulations on your progress. This past winter we spent a day in Crystal River on our way south. We enjoyed the Manatees and other Florida wildlife. During winter the Manatee migrate to that area. At Homosassa, which is basically south Crystal River there is a great state park. Sounds as if you are having a great time.
