[Ed. Note: Days 18, 19, 20 in Dog River Marina summarized below from original blog.]

Wed.Mar.18/Day 18:   After great night with no movement of anchor, fog delayed leaving until 08:00. Many tows/barges and we had only one bridge needing raising for us and two tows waiting. Mobile harbor interesting with many large ships, views of the naval yards, shipping containers, and a nice view of the downtown buildings [see photos]. Once on the Bay, wind increased with waves, but main shipping channel is 44ft deep; though side channels only 6-7ft. Docked on the transient/fuel dock at Dog River Marina at 12:30; it has a good reputation especially for repairs; took their courtesy car to Publix [10 miles – all the TP, eggs, and pre-packaged bread gone!]; all restaurants closed except for take-out.

Thurs.Mar.19/Day 19:       A busy maintenance day – replaced aft deck LED light; washed pollen off boat; inflated 60” fender, to use mostly as a ‘fender-board’; replaced fluxgate compass; foreman looked at water pump and we need to replace both valves from the tanks; Marg used marinas washer/dryer for sheets; we refilled diesel tanks [$3/g]. Calculated mileage from Demopolis – 1.7mpg or 0.6 gpm, and 7.2 gph/12 mph avg. We continue social distancing and enjoy our own happy hour.

Fri.Mar.20/Day 20:   Marina foreman Glen replaced our water pump valves and the fitting to the pump filter; he suggested having the mechanic in OBM look at the propeller shaft seal. The big fender was too soft and needed to use the yard high pressure hose to fill it. I called OBM and reserved a long-term slip for a month, anticipating the covid issues; and commented on Covid precautions and encouraged everyone to keep distancing. Posted photos and comments from travel through Mobile and of Dog R.marina. Explained the history and definition of a ‘knot’ [1.15mph].
