Days Events:

Wx - A great travel day - 73/94 forecast, bit humid of course, winds WSW 4-5mph, sunny.

Travel - we left Raritan Bay marina [after a nice quiet night without any wave/wake chop!!] at 11:10 - due to the high tide 13:30/1:30 and dockmaster encouraging us due to the shallow inlet only had 4-5 feet at low tide. Waters calm until we crossed into the Lower Bay [5miles out] and more chop from wind and ocean swells, but still minimal. Not much big ship traffic, though lots of radio chatter within NYC harbor related to the East River [what we could understand at least].

As we approached the Narrows-Verrazzano Bridge [which links Staten I. on left with Brooklyn on right], Coney Island is on the right; photo of the Bridge, with a channel lighthouse in front; the Bridge is a double-decker! Once under the Bridge, the harbor was choppy; 2 huge orange ferries going between Staten I. on left and Manhattan on right. Photos of the harbor with Jersey City & NYC in distance, of Manhattan with the Brooklyn Bridge [small, on right], of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis I. Quality less due the chop. Arrived at Liberty Landing Marina at 13:50/1:50pm, directly across from NYC Manhattan [Battery Park], after traveling 27 miles and 2.7hr.

Marinas - at Raritan marina, as Marg noted last night we had to turn on the generator when we accidentally used 2 a/c units, each pulling 10 amps [13 amps when the compressor cuts in]; plus, I forgot that the a/c water circulation pump requires 6 amps [for the compressor/condenser cycle]; so the 30 amp adapter providing only 15 amps per line on the boat will not work well even with just 1 a/c most of the time. The generator is 13,500 watts, whereas our 50amp cord can only provide 6000 watts power [50A x 120v = 6000w]; we never have power problems with the generator.

Unfortunately, a boat on the dock behind us had an alarm sounding all evening and all night; but didn't keep us awake due to the generators 'white noise' covering it; I told the dockhand this a.m. and he immediately went to check it.

The LLM [Liberty Landing Marina] is big - 520 slips, all floating docks with tides of 5 ft. Dockhand helpful and placed us on the shore bulkhead, bow pointed East, toward Manhattan; well protected and should't have much chop here. Docks are solid, floating, well maintained, first class. All the staff are wearing masks; there are clear dividers on the office counter.

Huge Ships Store building close to us - see photo - right at the end of the fuel dock. Both restaurants are closed unfortunately - one hasn't reopened due to Covid, the other closes on Mondays!

Photos - a series from our leaving Raritan Marina, through NYC harbor, to LLM. The Statue of Liberty is indeed impressive; it is beside Ellis Island [where 12 million immigrants arriving by ship were processed, from 1892 to 1954; it also was a contagious disease isolation area]. Some views from our flybridge of Jersey City and of Manhattan.

Admirals Desk: Another pleasant and exciting travel day. Very little commercial, ferry, ship traffic, therefore no big wakes. Used the autopilot to stay in the center of the channel and gawked and took photos.😃 We had prepared ourselves for the heavy shipping traffic similar to Norfolk Harbor, so a very pleasant surprise. We have again decided to not risk dining off the boat. There is only outdoor dining, many places aren't open, so delivery seemed a decent option. A lobster roll for me and a quinoa veggie burger for Rob. Both good. Photos are not all great. It's very hot and humid, adding to the normal NYC haze, so many shots are are hazy. I'm hoping for some interesting night shots! WE MADE IT TO NYC!!!I

We have often felt as if we were traveling in a bubble. 57 different marinas in ever-changing places. But at the end of every day, regardless of location, we are still in our own home. Same couch, same bed. Just a different view. Kinda weird!?

Good night all. It's getting dark so I need to skulk around looking for good night photos.

Maintenance:

Electrical plug - I changed the 'line' and 'load' wires to the aft head plug - and no power now to the plug itself nor downstream to the aft stateroom one. So, changed them back as it would appear I was correct initially - power showing now on the GFCI indicator light, but no power to the 2 receptacles and the GFCI will not reset, and no power downstream. Hmmm. Maybe one of the crimped connections downstream has lost conductivity, like the earlier one had separated. Will try cutting out the crimp connections and see what happens [the crimps are only about 2" from the plug terminals]. That's all today.

Tomorrow - up the Hudson River on the West side of Manhattan I. to Half Moon Bay Marina at Croton on the Hudson, 36 miles. Will be slower because we will be gawking!! Continue to stay safe.

Comments:

Jerry Reves - 11 Aug 2020: You have to visit the rest room there at marina: better than some of the finest homes and clubs. Take pictures - folks won't believe it is a marina.

Dd - 11 Aug 2020: How exciting!!! Sooo jealous! I want to see the bathroom too! Lol

Dd - 11 Aug 2020 | 05:14 Great pics

Robert & Margaret - 13 Aug 2020: Unfortunately, when I went in the store, the restroom was closed. Pity
