Day 105 - Charleston's Carolina Yacht Club

Days Events:

Wx: coolish in 70's, but windy to 15mph, cloudy, choppy waves.

Travel: left St.Johns Y.Harbor at 11:30 with wind against us in the slip and rising tide pushing us forward; had 3 fellows helping on the lines to keep us alongside the dock until we were past the end and wouldn't blow into the Grand Banks 46 [trawler boat] next to us; I had that captain with a fender in his hand in case we did come too close. But, we actually had no problem moving out and pivoting into the wind to clear the channel.

Saturday, with 'crazies' for at least 5 of the 7 miles - that's our perspective and they probably think the slow duck needs to get moving'!! Two large party boats [20+ teens/20-somethings] and at noon hour.

Arrived at CYC [Carolina Yacht Club], in the wind and the waves, cloudy, dull, dodging sailboats everywhere - they have races twice a week, controlled and scored from the outer dock of the CYC. CYC is a private club, which our looper friends Jerry and Jenny Reves, as members, enabled us to tie up on the inside of the outer dock [a long 'L' dock offering protection to the three docks inside; normally Saturday is buzzing with boats and non-members can only tie on the outer side; no one else was there so we had the inside to ourselves. Jerry helped us tie up.

Photos - a couple of the sailing race, including the suspension bridge in the background; the one includes a 'coyote' screwed to the dock, to deter the gulls [his tail fell off and someone stuck it on his head].

Tourist - due to wind and expected TSM, may try late in the day to go ashore. The whole dock is moving - a long walk to shore.

MECHANICAL:

Fender line 'stuck' - tried Ernie Rivards suggestion to pour something slippery down the fender hole didn't work. For now, it goes back into usage. Nothing else to report [for now].

Tomorrow, we head to Georgetowns Harborwalk Marina, 66 miles, for 2 nights. Keep distancing and staying in touch.

Think we need some of those coyotes at TP! Rob, I am having trouble with this whole fender/rope situation, could you please explain it in medical terminology that you are so adapt at!!?

Consider having a bladder stone which lodges itself in your urethra; I could insert a cystoscope up the urethra and nibble at the stone with toothed forceps, crushing it and ultimately removing it. Unfortunately, although I do have scope for looking into spaces behind walls, don't think it would help here. The stone in your urethra kind of blocks all intended function but the jammed knot of the fender line is so tight I don't think anything will remove it and the function remains intact. So, have put the fender back into play and will take what comes. :)
